Kalpana is a disciple of violin legend Sangeetha Kala Acharya Smt. T. Rukmini. She further trained in vocal music under doyens of music, Padmasri K.V. Narayanaswamy and then Padmabhushan P.S. Narayanaswamy.
A multi-faceted Indian classical musician, her accomplishments as a violinist and in vocal music have won her admirers all over the world. Kalpana has performed alongside acclaimed musicians like her Guru Smt. Rukmini, Smt. D.K. Pattammal, Dr. M. Balamurali Krishna, Chitravina Ravikiran, Sri. Neyveli Santhanagopalan, Smt. Aruna Sairam, Smt. Sudha Raghunathan & Smt. Nityasree Mahadevan. Apart from Carnatic vocal performances, both in India and the US, her flair for devotional music has led her to give many Bhajans, Abhang and Namasankirtan programs in the South. Kalpana has won several awards over the course of her career, including Samagana Priya Sudha and Sangeetha Sevaratna by Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam, as well as numerous awards from leading organizations like The Music Academy, Krishna Gana Sabha and Narada Gana Sabha.
As an ‘A’ grade artist, she has been featured regularly by All India Radio and multiple leading TV channels. Her interviews have been telecast on Sun TV, Asianet, Raj TV and Jaya TV. She was also a compere for programs on DD Podhigai. Deeply dedicated to sharing her knowledge, Kalpana has been training students in violin and vocal in India and abroad for several years through her organization, KalpanaSwaram School of Music.
