Shanmukha Sangeetha Shiromani Rohit Prasad is an accomplished Mridangam artiste, dedicated teacher, and an ‘A’ Grade artiste of All India Radio and Doordarshan, as well as an empanelled artiste of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR). A disciple of Guru Shri T. S. Nandakumar, he has been under his guidance since his formative years and continues advanced training at TSN’s Percussive Arts Centre, Mumbai. His Mridangam Arangetram in 2007, accompanying Padma Shri Dr. N. Ramani, marked the beginning of a distinguished performing career. He has had the rare privilege of accompanying three generations of the Ramani family and has shared the stage with several eminent Carnatic musicians, including Neyveli Santhanagopalan, Malladi Brothers, Lalgudi G. J. R. Krishnan, Mandolin U. Rajesh, Sikkil Gurucharan, Sandeep Narayan, Bharat Sundar, and many other leading artistes.
A recipient of several prestigious honours, Rohit Prasad has been recognised with the Shanmukha Sangeetha Shiromani Award (2023), Youth Excellence Award (2025), Sulaya Kalanidhi Award (2026), and the Best Mridangist Award from The Music Academy, Chennai (2016 & 2018). An accomplished performer, he is a regular presence at the Chennai December Music Season, has performed at the Sankat Mochan Hanuman Festival in Varanasi, and has featured in the National Programme of Music on Akashvani. Alongside his concert career, he serves as a Broadcasting Assistant at All India Radio and as a Professor of Music at SIES College of Packaging, Nerul, continuing to inspire the next generation of musicians through both performance and teaching.
